Wedding Hair and Makeup For Mom: A Guide For Flawless Mother of the Bride Glam

On your wedding day, it’s important that everyone important to you look and feel their best - especially your mom! Mothers of the bride and groom often feel nervous to get their hair and makeup done as they may not have a ton of experience with this type of service. Because of the celebratory nature of the day and the fact that they’ll be in front of the camera, chances are mom will want to be included in the glam process! A good beauty team will do everything they can to make the mothers of the bride and groom feel as confident and beautiful on wedding day as the bride. Here are a few of Elite Bridal Beauty’’s best tips to prepare mothers of the bride and groom for a great experience!

Hair Tips For Mother of the Bride and Groom

Be wary of trying something new

Wedding day may not be the best time for moms to try a brand new hairstyle or makeup look. After all, they're just as important as the bride, and we want them to feel amazing and like themselves.

We do offer trials for moms too, so our team can do a little experimenting with a new look before the big day, but we’ve found that most moms prefer a look that they’re familiar with, like a classic bouncy or sleek blowout. It’s most important that they feel comfortable, and a style they’ve done before and liked will make them feel like a polished, elevated version of themselves.

Is an updo right for you?

When thinking about an updo, it's important to be realistic about the type of hair you have. For an updo to look full and luxurious, you must have decent length and fullness. Of course, you can always get clip-in extensions, but most of the moms we work with don’t want to do something that requires more steps than necessary. They’d rather keep it simple and focus on other aspects of your day!

Consider Longevity

If your team stays with you throughout the day, don’t worry about having overly hair-sprayed hair. Unless, of course, you really want it (we’ll be ready with the hairspray bottle!). But stuck-to-your-head-like-a-helmet isn’t our style.

We touch up the mothers as well as the rest of the wedding party and make sure they are fresh and confident all day. We stay by your side throughout the photos so moms can rest assured they are taken care of.

Makeup Tips for Mother of the Bride and Groom

Focus On Skincare

Before getting makeup done, we always recommend a good skincare regime. That means exfoliation and hydration well before the wedding day! If they have a dermatologist, have mom set up an appointment to review how she can best prepare her skin for a flawless makeup application.

Keep Things Simple

If mom doesn't typically wear makeup, we understand it can be scary to have it professionally done, especially when you're not used to it. But trust us - our light-handed application will make them feel beautiful and photo ready.

We’ll apply a light foundation or concealer to even out any discoloration or redness that flash photography can pick up, and enhance natural features such as their eyes or cheekbones. We use lashes that are lightweight and will leave them feeling comfortable and confident.

How to Have the Best Wedding Glam Experience

Plan a pre-wedding trial

The best way to ensure mom is comfortable and ready for wedding day is to set up a trial with your hair and makeup team. This time will allow mom to get to know the artist, play around with styles, and decide what look she’d like for the big day.

At Elite, our approach allows moms or any woman in your life who classifies themselves with “mature skin” to be confident in their skin and their look. During our consultation, we’ll go over exactly what they like and dislike, what their go-to products are, and what brands they’re familiar with.

Trust your artist

We understand that moms can be hesitant about getting glammed, but we believe that our approach will allow them to feel like the best version of themselves. We are dedicated to that and promise it will be a great experience for her!

We’re open to feedback, and we encourage moms to speak up when something feels off. You should always tell your beauty team if you want to try something else as we want everyone to be in love with their look!

Most of the time, doing something closest to what they’re used to will make them feel their best. Even if they feel like their “normal” isn’t glam enough for a wedding, letting us take it to the next level will ensure they look and feel like themselves - but glammed!

Schedule your hair and makeup early

Typically if the mother of the bride is helping the bride get dressed, they’ll want to have their hair and makeup done by the same time or before the bride. This ensures they have time to get dressed and ready for those pictures!

Why the Beauty Team You Choose is so Important

While most beauty teams have experience with mature skin, it’s important to check the portfolio of the team you’re looking to hire for your wedding day.

If you don’t see many pictures of mothers of the bride or groom, you may need to ask for them. In these pictures, do the moms look natural (i.e. lashes too heavy or overdoing it on the foundation)?

Consult with your beauty team to ensure they’re comfortable working with women of all ages.

Here at Elite, we’ve worked with hundreds of mothers. We have the skill and experience to ensure your mom is well cared for. If you’re interested in learning more about our services, you can check them out here! We’d love to help you and mom feel your absolute best for such an important day.
